Gift Posy and Free Printable Greeting Cards
Today, we tie a laid-back gift posy with forget-me-nots, white spray carnation, santini chrysanthemum, and asparagus green, and show how to create a sleeve with crepe paper to package the posy. A sleeve is a simple and pretty way to dress up the flowers and make the posy even more colourful. And for gift giving, we created six greeting cards for different occasions that you can download at the end of this post. Gift Posy with a Crepe Paper Sleeve
This gift posy is a wonderful present for birthdays, Mother’s Day, as a lovely way to say “thank you” or “get well.”
- 5 – 6 white spray carnations
- 3 purple santini chrysanthemum
- 10 – 12 for-get-me-nots
- 6 -7 asparagus green
- green raffia
- crepe paper (We used sky blue, aqua and dusky pink.)
- clear tape
Measurements for the crepe paper strips (depending on the actual sizes of your posy, you may have to adapt these measurements):
- Blue: 1 m x 40 cm (40 in x 16 in)
- Aqua: 1 m x 37 cm (40 in x 14.5 in)
- Pink: 1 m x 34 cm (40 in x 13 in)
- florist knife
1) Prep the flowers
Before working on the flowers, allow them to rest in fresh water with flower food for an hour. Then strip off the bottom leaves of the forget-me-nots and carnations.
2) Tie the posy
Starting with a carnation in the middle, build the posy by arranging the flowers and asparagus green around the centre. Rotate the posy as you go and add the flowers at an angle. Shorten the stems to the same length. Tie the bouquet tightly together with raffia or ribbon.
3) Make the sleeve
Layer three pieces of crepe paper slightly offset, and tape the bottom of the paper strips together. Then wrap the paper around the posy creating a few ruffles. We replicated the colours of the flowers in our sleeve, but a contrasting colour scheme can also be an interesting choice. Instead of crepe paper, you can also work with wrapping paper. Tie ribbon around the base of the sleeve. Since paper easily absorbs water, it’s best to use the sleeve only for packaging and remove it before the posy is placed into water.
Materials: forget-me-nots, carnation, chrysanthemum, asparagus green
