Gift Giving Idea #1: Christmas Candles & Matchbox Wrappers

Make pretty gift candles with our free printable candle wrappers and coordinated matchboxes – 5 quick holiday gift giving ideas | countryhillcottage.com

All of us have a few candles hidden away in a cupboard and waiting to be turned into a pretty present! You can do this DIY with both, scented candles or unscented dinner candles.

You need: candles, match boxes, printable candle labels, printable decorative pattern, printable match box wrapper, washi tape

You do: To create pretty gift candles, print the decorative pattern on self-adhesive paper and trim so it will fit around your candle. Remove the backing of the paper and carefully attach it to the candle. Optionally, glue a label to the candle and further decorate with washi tape.

To create complementary match boxes, wrap a box with our printable match box wrappers but stay clear of the striking surface so matches can be light. Instead of the printables, you can create these wrappers also with cardstock, craft paper or gift wrap. Be sure to remove the wrapper before lighting the candle.

We love making and using DIY beauty products! This body scrub smells very festive. To use it, dampen your skin, apply the scrub in a circular motion and then wash it off. This works really well in the shower. The body scrub is excellent for exfoliating and the coconut oil will make your skin soft and hydrated!

You do: To make the sparkly cinnamon body scrub, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon and softened coconut oil in a large mixing bowl stir until perfectly combined.

Instead of vanilla extract you can also you essential oils, for example orange. Optionally add a little edible glitter.

Make hot chocolate on a stick with mini marshmallows and candy, and get free printable gift tags – 5 quick holiday gift giving ideas | countryhillcottage.com

Hot chocolate on a stick is so simple to make and looks incredibly gorgeous! You can prepare the recipe with dark, semi-sweet or a mix of dark and milk chocolate. If you’re using white chocolate allow to cool in the fridge, otherwise the chocolate won’t set. Instead of birch wood spoons, you can also use lollipop or cake pop sticks or coffee stirrer.

You need: 400 g (14 oz) dark chocolate or a 50/50 mix of dark and milk chocolate, chopped. You can also use 400 g (2 1/3 cups) chocolate chips, 90 g  (1 cup) unsweetened cocoa powder, 85 g  (2/3 cup) powdered sugar, 40 g (1/3) corn flour (cornstarch), your choice of topping for example nuts, crushed peppermint candy, caramel, mini marshmallows or sprinkles, silicone ice cube mould, birch wood spoons, printable spoon labels, printable gift tags, cellophane treat bags, tape

You do: If you’re using wooden spoons like us, apply the printable spoon toppers. To make the hot chocolate mix, melt the chocolate in the microwave set to medium high in 30 second intervals or in a double boiler.

Add the powdered sugar, cocoa and cinnamon to the chocolate and mix until well combined. Transfer into a disposable piping bag and pipe the mixture into the cavities of a silicone ice cube tray.

Stick a spoon in the middle and cover with your choice of marshmallows and sprinkles. To package the spoons, place them in a cellophane treat bag and decorate with a gift label. To enjoy the chocolate, stir a spoon in hot milk until the chocolate is melted.

Homemade and yummy chocolate chip cookie butter with festive spices and free printable labels – 5 quick holiday gift giving ideas | countryhillcottage.com

This recipe should come with a warning sign. Seriously, it’s that good and irresistible! Once you have tried homemade cookie butter, you’ll be making it over and over again. Instead of chocolate chip cookies, you can use many other cookies, such as Oreos, Biscoff or stem ginger biscuits. The recipes works best with cookies that are more on the crumbly and dry side. Now, we’re off to whip up another batch with our lemon shortbread stars.

You need: 400 g (14 oz) chocolate chip cookies (that’s approx. 2 1/4 cups cookie crumbs), 75 g (1/3 cup) butter, 115 ml (1/2 cup) sweetened condensed milk, spices (we used 1 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ground clove, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1/4 tsp cardamom), jars, printable gift labels & tags

You do: Crush the cookies in a blender or food processor into fine crumbs. Heat the butter and sweetened condensed milk over medium high heat until the butter has melted.

Pour the mixture over the cookie crumbs, add spices and stir until perfectly combined. Transfer the cookie butter into jars that have been decorated with our printable labels and store refrigerated until ready to use.

You can keep the cookie butter in the fridge for up to a week – not that it will last that long. We did warn you, remember?
