Gift wrapping made simple! Decorate you homemade presents with our printable labels and gift tags from our Starry Night Holiday Collection. To make these projects you need the following general tools and supplies: card-stock or photo paper, self-adhesive paper, craft scissors. And don’t forget to read our tips for printing perfect printables to get the best results!
Gift Giving Idea #1: Christmas Candles & Matchbox Wrappers
All of us have a few candles hidden away in a cupboard and waiting to be turned into a pretty present! You can do this DIY with both, scented candles or unscented dinner candles.
You need: candles, match boxes, printable candle labels, printable decorative pattern, printable match box wrapper, washi tape
You do: To create pretty gift candles, print the decorative pattern on self-adhesive paper and trim so it will fit around your candle. Remove the backing of the paper and carefully attach it to the candle. Optionally, glue a label to the candle and further decorate with washi tape. To create complementary match boxes, wrap a box with our printable match box wrappers but stay clear of the striking surface so matches can be light. Instead of the printables, you can create these wrappers also with cardstock, craft paper or gift wrap. Be sure to remove the wrapper before lighting the candle.
Gift Giving Idea #2: Sparkly Cinnamon Body Scrub
We love making and using DIY beauty products! This body scrub smells very festive. To use it, dampen your skin, apply the scrub in a circular motion and then wash it off. This works really well in the shower. The body scrub is excellent for exfoliating and the coconut oil will make your skin soft and hydrated!
You need: 200 g (1 cup) granulated sugar, 200 g ( 1 cup) brown or cane sugar, 200 g (1 cup) coconut oil, your choice of scent for example 3 tsp ground cinnamon and a few drop orange extract or essential oil, 2 tsp vanilla extract or 2 tsp mint extract, edible gold glitter, star sprinkles (check out our homemade sprinkles), rubbing alcohol, jars, printable labels
You do: To make the sparkly cinnamon body scrub, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon and softened coconut oil in a large mixing bowl stir until perfectly combined. Instead of vanilla extract you can also you essential oils, for example orange. Optionally add a little edible glitter. Spoon the scrub into jars, which have been wiped with rubbing alcohol, top with more glitter and star sprinkles, and attach the printable labels.
Gift Giving Idea #3: Hot Chocolate on a Stick
Hot chocolate on a stick is so simple to make and looks incredibly gorgeous! You can prepare the recipe with dark, semi-sweet or a mix of dark and milk chocolate. If you’re using white chocolate allow to cool in the fridge, otherwise the chocolate won’t set. Instead of birch wood spoons, you can also use lollipop or cake pop sticks or coffee stirrer.
You need: 400 g (14 oz) dark chocolate or a 50/50 mix of dark and milk chocolate, chopped. You can also use 400 g (2 1/3 cups) chocolate chips, 90 g (1 cup) unsweetened cocoa powder, 85 g (2/3 cup) powdered sugar, 40 g (1/3) corn flour (cornstarch), your choice of topping for example nuts, crushed peppermint candy, caramel, mini marshmallows or sprinkles, silicone ice cube mould, birch wood spoons, printable spoon labels, printable gift tags, cellophane treat bags, tape
You do: If you’re using wooden spoons like us, apply the printable spoon toppers. To make the hot chocolate mix, melt the chocolate in the microwave set to medium high in 30 second intervals or in a double boiler. Add the powdered sugar, cocoa and cinnamon to the chocolate and mix until well combined. Transfer into a disposable piping bag and pipe the mixture into the cavities of a silicone ice cube tray. Stick a spoon in the middle and cover with your choice of marshmallows and sprinkles. To package the spoons, place them in a cellophane treat bag and decorate with a gift label. To enjoy the chocolate, stir a spoon in hot milk until the chocolate is melted.
The addition of cornflour (cornstarch) helps to make the hot chocolate extra thick and creamy.
Gift Giving Idea #4: Homemade Cookie butter
This recipe should come with a warning sign. Seriously, it’s that good and irresistible! Once you have tried homemade cookie butter, you’ll be making it over and over again. Instead of chocolate chip cookies, you can use many other cookies, such as Oreos, Biscoff or stem ginger biscuits. The recipes works best with cookies that are more on the crumbly and dry side. Now, we’re off to whip up another batch with our lemon shortbread stars.
You need: 400 g (14 oz) chocolate chip cookies (that’s approx. 2 1/4 cups cookie crumbs), 75 g (1/3 cup) butter, 115 ml (1/2 cup) sweetened condensed milk, spices (we used 1 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ground clove, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1/4 tsp cardamom), jars, printable gift labels & tags
You do: Crush the cookies in a blender or food processor into fine crumbs. Heat the butter and sweetened condensed milk over medium high heat until the butter has melted. Pour the mixture over the cookie crumbs, add spices and stir until perfectly combined. Transfer the cookie butter into jars that have been decorated with our printable labels and store refrigerated until ready to use. You can keep the cookie butter in the fridge for up to a week – not that it will last that long. We did warn you, remember?
Gift Giving Idea #5: Festive Chai Tea Blend
You can create this festive chai tea blend with any type of good-quality loose tea, such as Earl Grey, Darjeeling or Rooibos. We added apple chips to give the blend a fruity note. Since we’re only using ingredients with a long shelf life, you can make this tea mix well in advance of the holiday hustle and store at room temperature until ready to give.
You need: 120 g (2 cups) loose black tea, 35 g (1 cup) apple chips, 2 tbsp ground cinnamon, 12 g (1/8 cup) cloves, 1 cup dried apple slices, chopped, 50 g (1/2 cups) cardamom pods, 20 g (1/3 cup) pink peppercorns, a cinnamon sticks and anise stars for decorating, jars, printable labels
You do: In a large mixing bowl, toss together the loose tea, dried apple slices, cinnamon, clove, pink pepper, and cardamom. Fill the tea mix into jars, apply the label and brewing instructions, and decorate with a ribbon.
