Wondering how to use essential oils safely with kids? I have 6 simple, but important, tips to ensure that the essential oil recipes are safe for children:
- Follow the age recommendations.
- Always dilute the essential oils in a carrier oil before use. Undiluted oils are too potent can cause irritations or allergic reactions.
- Do not use more essential oils than indicated. Increasing the dose doesn’t make a recipe more effective, but can lead to skin irritation and overexposure.
- Don’t swap essential oils. Some essential oils are safe for adults but not children (e.g. peppermint, certain EOs from the eucalyptus family.)
- Use the essential oil roller bottle recipes only topically, never internally.
- Essential oils are not a cure-all and should never replace prescribed medications. If you have questions, consult with your family physician or medical caregiver about using essential oils with kids.
