Ingredients
This fluffy pumpkin dip with ginger snaps requires only 5 ingredients. See the recipe card below for exact quantities.
- Pumpkin is the key ingredient in this pumpkin dip. You can use canned pumpkin or homemade pumpkin puree – not pumpkin pie filling.
- Cream cheese is the creamy base of this delicious dip. Let the cream cheese soften first so it mixes more smoothly.
- Powdered sugar adds the perfect amount of sweetness to the recipe.
- Heavy whipping cream is responsible for the super fluffy texture. Make sure your cream is very cold so it whips up properly.
- Pumpkin pie spice adds lots of warmth and cozy flavor to our pumpkin gingersnap dip. You can make your own spice mix or use a store-bought one.
Substitutions
You can make a couple of substitutions to customize the easy pumpkin dip recipe.
- Brown sugar: Feel free to substitute the powdered sugar with 1/4 to 1/3 cup of brown sugar. Brown sugar adds a lovely molasses note that goes so with pumpkin and gingersnaps.
- Maple syrup: You can also sweeten the dip with maple syrup. Just note that the texture will be slightly thinner.
- Greek yogurt: Lighten up the dip by swapping the cream cheese for the same amount of Greek yogurt.
- Spices: If you can’t find pumpkin pie spice, use individual spices instead. Start with 1 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ground ginger, and 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg and adjust from there.
- Vanilla extract: A teaspoon of vanilla extract is a tasty way to give the dip more depth of flavor.
Tools
- Measuring tools
- 2 mixing bowls
- Electric mix with beaters
- Rubber spatula
How to make pumpkin dip with ginger snaps
This delicious spiced pumpkin dip is incredibly easy and quick to prepare. You simply whip the cream and then mix everything into a tasty, sweet pumpkin dip.
1. Add ingredients
Place the pumpkin puree, cream cheese, powdered sugar, and spices into a large mixing bowl.
2. Mix
Mix on medium speed using an electric mixer or a whisk until everything is well combined and smooth.
3. Whip cream
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
Fold the whipped cream into the pumpkin mixture using a rubber spatula in 2 additions. Be careful not to overmix and deflate the cream.
4. Garnish & serve
Transfer the sweet pumpkin dip from the mixing bowl to a serving dish and top with extra pumpkin pie spice, ginger snap crumbs, and a drizzle of maple syrup (if desired).
Serve the dip with ginger snaps, graham crackers, pretzels, fresh fruit, and so much more. Enjoy!
Tips
- Soften the cream cheese so it’s easier to mix. Let the cream cheese soften on the counter 30 minutes beforehand or soften it in 20-second bursts in the microwave (medium power).
- Adjust the sweetness: I find 1/2 cup of powdered sugar gives the perfect amount of sweetness. For a less sweet pumpkin dip, use only 1/3 cup. And for an even sweeter dip, increase the sugar to 3/4 cup.
- Adjust the spices to your taste: Add more or less pumpkin pie spice according to your liking.
- Add some crunch on top: I like to crumble up some gingersnap cookies, but graham crackers, nuts, and chocolate chips would also be a tasty option.
- Bigger batch: If you want to make this easy pumpkin dip for a big holiday party or potluck, simply double the ingredient amounts to generate more servings.
Serving suggestions
Pumpkin dip with ginger snaps is perfect for fall parties, Thanksgiving, and game day. Here are a few ideas for what to eat with pumpkin dip:
- Gingersnaps are my favorite dippers for this treat. The crunchy texture and spicy taste of the cookies pairs beautifully with this light, sweet pumpkin dip.
- Other cookies: Graham crackers, vanilla wafers, Pirouline cookies, peanut butter cookies, lace cookies, gingerbread cookies, and mini pretzels are also tasty options.
- Fruit: The fresh fruity flavors of apple slices, pears slices, and grapes go well with the rich, creamy pumpkin dip.
Storage instructions
- Serve: As with most recipes containing dairy products, you shouldn’t leave this dip out at room temperature for longer than 2 hours.
- Store: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge and consume within 4 to 5 days.
- Freeze: I don’t recommend freezing pumpkin dip because it will lose its creamy texture when frozen and thawed.
