Sep 24, 2017 | Beauty DIYs, Free Printables, Gift Giving

Extra rich body butter is perfect to remedy dry skin in autumn and winter. The base for this beauty DIY is made with cacao butter and shea butter that help to keep the skin moisturised and protect it from drying out. Apricot kernel oil, which is rich in vitamins A and E and said to have positive effects on skin ageing, and jojoba oil, which can reduce acne, eczema and sunburns, further boost the nourishing effect. The body butter is ideal to smooth rough elbows, knees, or even feet. You can use it on the entire body, but we recommend to skip the face. And if you’re looking for a thoughtful homemade gift for your girlfriends, fill the body butter into small jars and gift them decorated with our free printable labels, which you can download at the end of this post.

Extra Rich Body Butter

Stir 1 tbsp cornflour (cornstarch) into the body butter for a silkier consistency.

Materials

For the body butter

  • 65 g (1/3 cup) pure shea butter
  • 30 g (2 tbsp) cacao butter
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) apricot kernel oil
  • 5 ml (1 tsp) jojoba oil
  • up to 20 drops of an essential oil of your choice (optional – We used lavender essential oil.)

For gift giving

  • small jars
  • printable labels (download below)

Instructions

1) Melt the shea and cacao butter

Fill a saucepan 1/3 with water and bring to a mild simmer. Add the shea butter, cocoa butter, apricot kernel oil, and jojoba oil into a heatproof bowl and place on top of the saucepan. The water shouldn’t touch the bottom of the bowl. Stir constantly until the mixture has completely melted and no lumps of shea butter remain.

2) Freeze the mixture

Once melted, set the mixture aside for ten minutes to cool while stirring constantly. Then put the body butter into the freezer for 15 minutes.

3) Whip the body butter

Using an electric mixer or whisk, whip the cold mixture until fluffy and almost doubled in volume. Lastly, stir in the essential oil and cornflour (cornstarch).

Difficulty: easy

Materials: shea butter, cocoa butter, essential oils
