Since chocolate and coffee are my (Stephanie) two favorite foodie things in the whole wide world, picking the perfect chocolate for this recipe is extra important to me.
Team Milk or Team Dark?
I am a fan of milk chocolate over dark chocolate. But let’s be honest, in a pinch I have been known to eat my way through plenty of dark chocolate! But that being said, for the chocolate in this recipe we used milk chocolate.
Best Hot Chocolate Mix
This recipe also calls for prepared hot chocolate mix. Once again, being the chocolate connoisseur that I am, I am picky about using prepared hot chocolate powder. Fortunately, after much searching, I have found one that I truly love. It is Penzeys Hot Chocolate Mix.
This mix contains: sugar, natural cocoa, Ceylon Cinnamon and real vanilla beans. That’s it! Nothing artificial! Only pure ingredients! If you ever try Penzeys Hot Chocolate Mix I promise you will never use any other again.
Whole Milk For The Win!
Whenever possible, Sydney and I always use whole milk in our recipes. Whole milk adds a creaminess to your recipes and this frozen hot chocolate is no exception. The creamier the better!
Please note that you will not pour all the milk in at the same time! 1/2 cup of milk will go in initially and later 1 cup of milk will follow.
You could easily use white chocolate and a white chocolate mix to change this recipe up. You can add in a little vanilla or cinnamon to give it an extra little taste. It is one of those recipes that you can make to fit your family’s likes.
This is one recipe we will be making quite often during the warm weather months. Perfect as a drink all by itself or as a really pretty dessert.
