How do you make candy cane gift tags?
How do you make a gift tag? You can create printable candy cane gift tags in a few simple steps and only need a printer and scissors. Here’s how to make DIY candy cane gift tags:
- Download the printable gift tags templates at the end of the post.
- Locate the printable gift tags PDF file on your device (usually the download folder) and open in a PDF reader. I recommend Adobe Reader – it’s a free program and will give you the best printing results. If Adobe Reader isn’t already installed on your device, click here to start the installation (un-check any optional offers.)
- In the top left corner, select the option “File” and then click “Print” in the drop-down menu.
- In the printer dialogue box, select “Actual size” or 100% and choose best/optimal under properties. Since every printer is different, the labels might be called differently, but be sure to print at the highest possible quality for beautiful printable holiday gift tags.
- Print out the candy cane gift tags.
- Using scissors, trace the outline and cut out each gift label.
- Use a single-hole punch to cut small holes into the gift tags.
- String the DIY gift tags with baker’s twine or ribbon and attach to presents or gift bags.
What paper do I need to print candy cane gift tag printables?
The labels are designed to fit both on letter sizes paper and 4A paper. I recommend thick printer paper or card stock. As for paper colour, I usually go with white, but ivory paper or very light pink paper would look gorgeous for these candy cane Christmas gift tags, too.
Can you change the size of the free printable holiday gift tags?
Yes, you can. The gift tags have a size of approximately 2 in x 3 in / 5 x 7 cm, which is a pretty standard size for gift tags. But tiny holiday gift tags are so cute, especially for small presents.
So how do you scale these free candy cane Christmas gift tags? Instead of choosing actual size/100% in the printer setting box, enter a value between 90% to 50% into the “Custom Scale” field. If you want to print bigger than 100%, the gift tag design will become blurry.
Are DIY printable gift tags expensive?
A reader recently asked me if printing printables at home is expensive and I don’t think it is. You need a printer, which is a one-time investment that will last you for a few years, and occasionally fresh ink. Printing paper, even high-quality paper, isn’t expensive either. 5 to 10 quid (or bucks for my American friends) and you’re good to go. Even printing at a print shop won’t break the bank.
The printable candy cane gift tags are free and using these free DIY holiday gift tags for gift wrapping and to package treats or present is one of the easiest and most affordable ways for how to decorate holiday gifts.
How to customise the candy cane holiday gift tags
My candy cane gift tags are pretty as is but also allow you to have a little fun and be creative. Use embellishments like rhinestones with adhesive backings, washi tape, small Christmas stickers and other wrapping accessories to create personalized Christmas gift tags.
